The Clinics
Meeting needs is the first step in ministering to the people in the Dominican Republic.  These people have few financial resources.  What money they have goes for basic things like food and clothing.  Money to
cover healthcare is non-existent in most household budgets.  That translates into several major health problems.  The infant mortality rate was one of the highest in the world.  The life expectancy of adults was extremely low.  The World Health Organization recognized the Dominican Republic as the country with the lowest amount of money spent per capita for health care.  That is the reason for the poor health issues.

In the 1980’s, Jim and Dorine Smith were serving as missionaries in the Dominican Republic.  They saw the need.  Along came two young Dominican doctors who also saw the same need.  Together they began to dream of affordable healthcare for people considered the poor of the poor.  God blessed that dream.  Shortly after that funds were raised and the clinic opened its doors in 1989.  Its services and outreach continue to grow.  Over 22,000 patients were served last year.  Clinic services continue to expand as more upgraded equipment arrives from North America.  North American medical teams work with the Dominican doctors to provide services at little or no charge to those using them.

Solid Rock Missions has partnered with the Clinic Christiana to help provide low cost healthcare.  Besides the work teams and providing equipment, Solid Rock Missions provides financial help to the clinic as well.  We supplement the clinic with a regular contribution of $3300 per month.  Most of those funds come from the SRM General Fund.  We are looking for individuals to help underwrite a portion of this contribution on a monthly basis. Your gifts will help to guarantee low cost healthcare will be available to those in need.  Please consider becoming a part of our team to help those in need.

In the late 1980’s, the Infant Survival Program was initiated to address the problem of the extremely high infant mortality rate.  The program provided check ups and milk for the child.  It also provided vitamins for the mother.  The program worked and the rate of survival improved to the point where the program almost disappeared.  In early 2002, a government sponsored health census showed that there was once again a need for the Infant Survival Program. Recent reports from doctors indicate that the problem is proportional to the state of the economy.  They are now seeing a drastic increase in malnutrition Now we need funding to restart and operate the  program.  Our goal is to hire a nutritionist and once again provide the essentials for children and mothers

The more we look, the more we see the need for satellite clinics to help meet the health needs in other areas.  El Cercado is the site of our first satellite. It is a city of  30,000 people with no facility for doctors to treat patients.  The new clinic opened in late 2003.   The facility is just now getting up to speed, seeing patients who live in the community.  It also being used as a referral clinic as North American teams conduct remote mobile clinics in the towns and villages surrounding El Cercado.   Solid Rock Missions is committed to the success of this clinic. With the current condition of the economy, the clinic is requiring more and longer financial support than expected. Gifts to help this operation can be designated "Healthcare Assurance EC"
